We’ve been hearing it for years,
at least since the Reagan Era: conservatives are mean, conservatives embrace
hatred, conservatives want to take away all our rights, conservatives want
to be totalitarians.
Yet the reality of those claims is
far different. The venom spewed from America’s liberal elite is far more
caustic, self-serving, intolerant and totalitarian than anything coming
from the mainstream Right. And it’s getting worse.
The two-faced nature of the liberal
elite is evidenced no better than in the push for expansion of the “fairness
doctrine” in broadcasting – which would effectively negate the only voices
in broadcasting which are conservatives in nature by forcing broadcasters
to present “opposing viewpoints” to each and every political point made
by the likes of a Sean Hannity, Jerry Doyle or Walton & Johnson – basically,
anything they disagree with.
The same folks who cry about the
need to defend freedom of speech are, in fact, trying to limit that definition
to include only that with which they agree.
Discounting the crazed religious
bigots like the members of the Topeka, Kan., Westboro Baptist Church and
a few others, conservatives in general -- while espousing strong opinions
-- have rarely stooped to actively wishing harm on those they disagree
with. Not so the Left – even supposedly “responsible” liberals like members
of the news media and entertainers.
Veteran CBS newsman Bernard Goldberg,
in an interview with NewsMax.com promoting his book, "Bias: A CBS Insider
Exposes How the Media Distort the News," cites several examples of left-wing
members of the news media saying truly hateful things about conservatives
which, were the shoe on the other foot, would lose them their jobs:
* "[I]f there is retributive justice
[Sen. Jesse Helms] will get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren
will get it." – PBS’s Nina Totenberg
